This year my mantle is singing to my soul!
I have a confession….I’m a stocking making addict. I make new stockings about – let me think – oh, every year. ๐
I put together this DIY stocking tutorial a few years back and I recently pulled it out of the archives again to make some new Christmas stockings for this year! I love them and I may just use them again next year. Maybe.
One of the things I love most about this time of year is coming up with new decor for my mantle. I don’t usually go too crazy on decorating the mantle for any holiday except Christmas when I clear it of all the normal stuff and I make {mostly} all new stuff every year.
This years stockings are made with a gray buffalo check duck cloth I found at Hobby Lobby and then lined the inside with a white plush felt from Joann. You can kind of see the fuzzy stuff around the top edge of the stocking, that is the plush felt that I purposely stitched in place to peek out over the top and give a softer, fuzzy look around the top. One of my favorite little details about the stockings this year is the leather strapping I used for the hanger. It’s such a small detail but I love it!
I made the tags with the help of my mother-in-law. She embroidered the names on fabric and then I cut them down and stitched them to left over felt that I used for the inside lining of the stockings. I found some cute red and white twine in the dollar spot a few months back and that’s what I used to hang them from the leather strap hanger. I threaded some yarn through the white poms and hung them from the strapping also. Both are adorable little details that make all the difference. And they are removable so I can put them on my next year stockings if I want to. ๐
The deer head was probably the simplest project of all…maybe ever. It is simply a cut out that I nailed to a piece of plywood and then spray painted it all white and then distressed the paint with my orbital sander. And the white fluffy stuff on top of the garland is a little feather boa I found in the holiday section at Hobby Lobby.
