Today, I’m stopping in to share with you the small functional laundry + mud room inspiration I’ve come up with for my new house!
If you’ve been following me on Instagram, then you’ve seen a few progress pictures of our new house! Eek! This little dream we’ve envisioned is now becoming a reality after months and months of planning. I can’t even express how excited my husband and I are watching this little dream come to life right before our very eyes and seeing the daily progress. We’re so giddy over it. It’s been a surreal experience for us. Every aspect of the past year and a half in our lives has been so very over-whelming and it seems things are slowly coming full circle and it has left me (us) feeling extremely humbled and exorbitantly blessed.
With all this excitement my brain is in over-drive. I’m mentally organizing, decorating and slightly renovating all at the same time! LOL I’ve got plans within plans for each and every space in our new house and it doesn’t even have sheet rock on the walls yet (soon though, very soon)! When I start talking to my husband about any plans, he drifts off to another world. So I figured I’ll bore you guys with them 😉
The first thing we are doing once the saws get set up is the Laundry Room. The door to the laundry room is located directly across the hall from the garage door into the house. 98% of the time we enter/exit through the garage so it is the perfect location for the catch-all space! I need this small space to function not only as a laundry room, but also as mudroom for the kids. With 5 smallish kids and all the stuff that goes with them, I need this space created pretty fast for my sanity.
So far this is what I’ve come up with for some inspiration.
Stacked washer/dryer with cabinets above.
I like the storage bench and vertical storage cabinets on the side, you could hide a lot of stuff in there.
Pop of color! Who wouldn’t be happy in this room?! Love the color along with the shelves for storage.
While it won’t work in my space, I love the idea of putting an extra fridge in the laundry room rather than the garage!
This wall unit/bench is pretty much perfect!
Hooks on the wall to hang coats or a purse with a little mud pan for shoes in a small area.
A built-in rack for hanging clothes to dry.
This is a great use of space in what I call a laundry hallway. We have one in our rental, and I hate it because the space is not used wisely!
This laundry room is really close to what I envision for mine.
So what is my plan?
After scouring the web for ideas and photo inspiration, this is how I plan to use this space to the absolute best of my ability.
When looking at using my small space wisely, my first thought is to use all the vertical space I can because I don’t have much floor space. I have a front loading washer and dryer, so I’m going to stack them and build a cabinet around and to the ceiling to provide some storage above. Next, I’m going to have a wall-to-wall unit with a built-in storage bench, hooks, and shelves or cabinets above. The idea with the built-in storage bench is so my children can’t complain about difficulty in putting shoes away…they just have to lift and throw. The wall unit will have double hooks to provide adequate space for coats and backpacks. Up top storage will have bins to store off-season items like coats, hats, gloves, boots, sandals/flip-flops when they aren’t being used. I’m still working on a color scheme, but I want something fun but subtle…so I can pretend laundry is fun when I walk in the room. 😉
Thanks for stopping by!
