Did you know that you can clean your disgustingly, caked on grimy stove top and make it shine like brand new with a gentle and chemical free cleaner?
Well, guess what…you CAN. And it’s so simple you won’t believe it. I’m going to show you how I do this all the time using 2 simple household ingredients.
I have a super easy chemical free stove top cleaner that I have tested over and over. I’ve been using it for a few years now and each time it does not disappoint. It’s so simple you won’t believe it…and cheap!
I know it’s hard to believe because it has been pounded into our brains that you have to use chemicals to really clean a surface. Well, let me tell you that as I’m getting older, I’m realizing that going back to the basics of how we humans used to eat and clean is really, most times, much safer and healthier!
I love to share these things I learn through my journey because I love it when friends share with me! It was about 4 years ago that I started getting into living a more organic chemical free life by finding simple ways to cut out chemicals in the food we eat and the products we use. You’ll notice I say “more” organic….I’m not all super crazy about it, but there are several easy substitutions you can make in everyday life to cut out chemicals!
Because here’s the thing, all of my children have Asthma to one degree or another. A few of them have been hospitalized because of it. So filling the house with harmful chemical inhalants became very alarming to me when I discovered they could set my children into an asthma exacerbation! At first, going to natural cleaners was a struggle for me because of the whole brainwashing of society that we need to live in germ free bubbles and use chemicals to create said environments.
I’ll be honest, though, I still use a little bleach cleaner on and around the floor of toilets. Thanks to my boys! They are so gross.
The Nitty Gritty
Here’s a close up of my cook top before, this is several months worth of caked on grime.
This is what happens when the kids (and husband) cook…the people that live in my house would consider this clean. Clearly, we are not on the same page.
What are the simple ingredients?
Vinegar and baking soda!
This is how I use them to clean the gunk off of my stove top.
Sprinkle baking soda on the grimy spots. Squirt some vinegar and watch it get bubbly (I use either a spray bottle or a condiment bottle with vinegar). Wipe and scrub with a rag.
These are the results for the first go around.
It didn’t quite get it all. So I repeated the process and this time let it sit for a few minutes and put some elbow grease into it!
And…..Ta-Da
It probably would help if you have some sort of scrubbing material (nothing too abrasive, might scratch stainless steel!), I only had a regular old kitchen rag so I had to work a little harder. But overall it’s really pretty easy!
We all know vinegar can be a little smelly but it beats smelling the stove top cleaner and chemicals.
Have you tried this concoction before? Leave me a comment below, I’d love to know how it worked for you!
